To make my Hoysim beef bowl you're going to start by making the carrot and cucumber salad
0:06
You will need a mandolin for this. First top and tail your carrots and then slice them in half horizontally
0:14
Then take your half the cucumber and cut that in half horizontally too
0:19
Then using the thinnest slicing attachment you can cut the carrots and cucumbers into thin slices
0:25
or you can use this julienne attachment and cut them into more like matchstick shapes
0:32
Then firmly press the carrot into the spokes and you're ready to go
0:42
Repeat with the cucumber. Transfer to a mixing bowl and add in your white wine vinegar, your vegetable oil
0:53
and your castor sugar. Then you just want to toss really well until everything is coated
1:01
and then you can set aside while you cook. Next start cooking your rice. Then
1:06
heat your oil over a medium heat and when hot add your minced beef stir and use your spoon to break up any chunks until it all browned which will be about five minutes
1:20
Then using the lid of the pan carefully drain any excess fat and return the pan to the heat
1:28
Add your garlic, Chinese five spice and ground ginger and stir for one minute
1:34
Then add your beef stock. followed by your hoison sauce and your soy sauce and then just stir it all really
1:45
well together until it's all completely coated then bring to the boil then
1:53
turn heat down to a low and simmer for 15 minutes stirring occasionally
2:00
when your rice is done fluff up with a fork and serve
2:07
For adult and older children's servings, I really recommend you sprinkle with spring onions
2:20
They go so good and sesame seeds too if you like
