Serving my Peanut Butter Date Spread & Dip
As a Peanut Butter Date Spread
The kids and I love to slather this Peanut Butter Date Spread on crusty toast for breakfast. The kids like it simply served like that, but my favourite way is to top it with a layer of crisp, thinly sliced apple - so refreshing and delicious! My favourite bread to serve it on is toasted sliced boule, but any nice bakery crusty loaf will do.
As a Peanut Butter Date Dip
With Apple
Serving this as a dip with apple slices is perfection. My daughter especially LOVES eating it this way, she’ll have it everyday with an apple until it runs out!
With Pretzels
It also pairs perfectly with hard pretzels. Be it plain or chocolate covered. I like to serve both types of pretzels alongside apple slices when I make this as a dip for special occasions.
With Biscuits
You can also dip plainer biscuits into this dip. Go for biscuits like digestives, rich tea and graham crackers (US).
The Stars of my Peanut Butter Date Spread & Dip
With just two main ingredients, peanut butter and medjool dates, this Peanut Butter Date Spread & Dip is super simple to make.
Peanut Butter
You’ll need a smooth peanut butter and ideally one that’s on the runnier side as opposed to a very thick one. If all you have is a thick, dense one, then you will need to add some water to loosen the mixture while you are whizzing it in the food processor. I have included instructions for this in the recipe.
Dates
You’ll want to use medjool dates for this dip, I know they are a little more expensive than a pack of dried regular dried dates, but trust me when I say it’s worth it! In order to prep the medjool dates for this dip you will need to soak them in hot water from the kettle for 30 minutes. Then strain them through a sieve, saving the water in a jug or bowl as you’ll need to add a little of this water into the dip. The reason we need to soak the dates is so they breakdown more easily in the food processor. If you skip this step, you will have lumpy chewy bits throughout your spread/dip.
Other Ingredients
You will add a little honey or agave just to edge up the sweetness a little. Go for agave if you want to share this with a baby under 12 months. We’re also adding a good pinch of cinnamon.
FAQ’s For My Peanut Butter Date Spread & Dip
Can I prepare this Peanut Butter Date Spread & Dip in advance?
Yep, it will keep for up to 4 days and so that’s fine. If you want to serve it as a dip for a special occasion, you can also prepare the apple slices in advance; just add them to an air-tight food container and drizzle over a good amount of lemon juice. Toss well, cover and refrigerate. The apple will stay fresh and not go brown for at least 24 hours. When it’s time to serve, just blot the apple slices briefly with paper towel. And don’t worry, they won’t taste sour or of lemon - weirdly!
Can I feed more people with this recipe?
Yes, and I would recommend doubling this recipe if you would like to serve it as a dip for guests AND you’d also like to have it as a spread for toast for a few days.

This is a great simple recipe for the kids to help you with. So long as you handle the hot water and supervise them closely while they add ingredients to the food processor and while it’s in use.
