3 Easy Halloween Food Ideas for Kids

    Jump to Recipe

These 3 easy Halloween food ideas use minimal equipment, require minimal skill and are quick to create, making them perfect for busy parents or even kids to make. You can make one, two or all three; which would make the perfect balanced snack plate for the kids on Halloween.

3 easy halloween food ideas for kids

Easy Halloween Food Ideas for Kids #1

    Cucumber Ghosts

This is such a fun savoury Halloween food idea, the kids may want their cucumber served like this all the time! These Cucumber Ghosts will also work great on a picky plate for dinner or alongside sandwiches.

    What you will need:

    • The 2 ends of a cucumber (or more cucumbers, depending on how many kids you are making these for)
    • 2 straws or piping nozzles of slightly different sizes. You’ll need one that makes a smaller hole for the eyes and one that can make a larger hole for the mouth. If using straws, they need to be made from hard paper or plastic, NOT silicone. You need to be able to use them like cutters and press out eyes and mouth. If using piping nozzles, use the small ends where the icing would come out.

How to make this easy Halloween food idea for kids:

Cut the ends of the cucumber off at roughly 2 inches from the end. Then stand the ends upright on the chopping board, flat side down and cut into roughly 3mm slices. Then lay them flat side by side on the board. Use the slightly smaller straw to pierce holes in near the top end of the cucumber slices for eyes, and the slightly larger straw to make a hole for the mouth. See the video above to watch me do it. If you make these in advance, store them in a small food storage container covered in cold water and chill.

Easy Halloween Food Ideas for Kids #2

    Marshmallow Ghouls

It’s Halloween! You can’t give the kids a snack or picky plate without some kind of spooky sweet treat. And these Marshmallow Ghouls are the easiest Halloween food idea of them all. The kids can pop them in their hot chocolate, and you can even do ghost faces on white mini marshmallows instead.

    What you will need:

    • Regular size marshmallows, white ones only
    • An edible black food marker

How to make this easy Halloween food idea for kids:

Just draw on two oval shaped eyes and then an oval or scream style mouth that’s bigger than the eyes. If making these in advance, store in an air tight food container.

Easy Halloween Food Ideas for Kids #3

    Grape Eyeballs

These Grape Eyeballs are another easy food idea and a great way to make fruit fun for the kids on Halloween!

    What you will need:

    • Some green grapes, pick a pack of larger rounder grapes
    • ½ pack of white cooking chocolate
    • 1 piping bag & scissors
    • Edible eyes, two sizes; medium and large

How to make this easy Halloween food idea for kids

Slice a handful of grapes in half horizontally. And put them on a plate cut side down. Break up the white chocolate into a bowl and microwave in 20 second bursts, stirring after each one until almost fully melted. Then stir until fully melted. Spoon the melted chocolate into your piping bag. Snip off the very tip of the bag, about 2 mm up. You only want a small hole so you can control the chocolate coming out.

Then pipe a decent dot of chocolate onto the middle of a grape half. Add an edible eye. Carry on until you have done the amount of grapes you need. Remember to do a mix of different size eyes. You can serve immediately if you need to, but the eyes may slide off when they are picked up. It’s best to chill the plate of grapes in the fridge for half an hour before serving if you have time.

I hope you have decided to make at least one of these 3 Easy Halloween Food Ideas for Kids. Don’t forget to watch the video above to see me making them.
