These simple, 4 ingredient Air Fryer Banana Cookies are high in protein, have zero added sweeteners and can be ready in under 20 minutes. Delicious served warm with melty chocolate chips, there’s really no other way to eat them. And, if you made them ahead of time, they can be reheated in the microwave in seconds. We like to have them for breakfast, but they also make a great healthy snack.

Air Fryer Banana Cookies - 4 ingredient

The recipe makes 8-9 cookies, and if you have a large air fryer you can make the 8 all in one go, otherwise if you have a smaller air fryer, in two batches. You can also choose to make them with half almond flour, instead of self-raising flour only. That will give you an extra protein and nutrient boost!

    Kid-Approved

These Air Fryer Banana Cookies are also super kid friendly, mine love them! They make the perfect school day breakfast or after school snack. They are quick to make, but you can also make them in advance and even reheat them quickly in the microwave from frozen.

    Toddler Friendly

If you have a toddler, these Air Fryer Banana Cookies can be shared with them too, once you start allowing them to have chocolate.

Family breakfast suitable for toddlers - air fryer recipe

You’ll love this Air Fryer Banana Cookies recipe because:

    • Only has 4 ingredients (well 5 if you want to use half almond flour, half self raising)
    • They contain no added sugar or sweeteners
    • It can be ready in under 20 minutes
    • They are healthy enough to eat for breakfast
    • You can share with whole family, including little ones 12 months +
    • They freeze well and can be reheated quickly

FAQ’s For My Air Fryer Banana Cookies

I have bananas that aren’t very ripe, can I use them?

The recipe does call for very ripe bananas, and that is because it means you then don’t have to add in any sweetener. if you use bananas that aren’t ripe, you will need to add in a tablespoon of honey or agave. I would recommend you wait a few days, until you have very ripe bananas.

Air Fryer Banana Cookies - healthy family breakfast idea

Is there a special type of peanut butter I need to use for these Air Fryer Banana Cookies?

Yes, I suggest using a runny, smooth peanut butter. It needs to be easy to stir into the mashed banana.

What’s better, using just self raising flour, or almond flour too?

I think they are good both ways, and I make them both ways. Using almond flour as well as self-raising will make them higher in protein and other nutrients. You’ll also find the texture a little different when you use almond flour. When you mix everything together, you’ll get more of a batter than a dough like you do using just self raising flour. It will still be thick enough to scoop and they will still hold their shape as cookies. Once cooked, the cookies themselves will have a softer, more moist texture. If you use just flour, the texture will be denser.

Can I feed more people with this recipe?

You can, the recipe can be doubled, however I would only recommend this if you have a large air fryer like mine (you can see it in the video) as a double batch can be baked in 2 lots (3 if you get 9 cookies each batch which is likely to happen if you use half almond flour). However, if you have a smaller air fryer, you will have to bake them in 4-5 batches, which is a lot!

I’m only one person and I have a small air fryer, can I make less?

I really wouldn’t recommend having the recipe, these freeze really well and you can keep them at room temperature for three days so I would really recommend you make the whole batch and store until you can eat them all.

How can younger children help make it?

Oh, this is a great one for little kids as it’s so simple with few ingredients. They can help with every step of this recipe.

Can I Store Air Fryer Banana Cookies leftovers?

You can store any Air Fryer Banana Cookies leftovers in an air-tight container or resealable food bag at room temperature for up to 3 days (cook day + 2). As these are best served warm, you can just reheat them in the microwave for 10 seconds to warm them through a little before enjoying. Alternatively, reheat air fryer on 160 for 4 mins. Leftovers can also be frozen, and even reheated in the microwave from frozen. To give you an idea of how long, I use the defrost setting on my microwave for 100g in weight for two of these cookies, and 200g in weight for 4. Thats just 1-2 minutes on defrost.

More on safe food storage and reheating.

What diets is this recipe suitable for?

My Air Fryer Banana Cookies are suitable for diary and egg-free diets. They are also vegan and vegetarian friendly. They are NOT suitable for gluten or nut-free diets.

    Equipment

    • Air Fryer

    Ingredients

    • 2 very ripe large bananas, mashed
    • 130 g smooth peanut butter
    • 80 g self raising flour OR 40g (¼ cup) SR flour + 45g (¼ cup) almond flour
    • 50 g dark chocolate chips
Prevent your screen from going dark

    Instructions

    • Add the mashed banana and peanut butter to a mixing bowl. Stir under well combined using a balloon whisk.
    • Stir through the flour using a metal spoon to make a thick dough like consistency. If you are using a mix of almond flour and plain flour, the mixture will be looser and a bit more like cake batter which is fine.
    • Stir in the chocolate chips.
    • Using a medium ice cream scoop, put spoonfuls of the mixture in your lined air fryer basket, leaving a little space in between each one (they won’t spread out much). If you have a large air fryer you should be able to fit all 8 cookies (if you have extra batter, you might get 9 cookies and have to bake that separately). If you have a smaller air fryer, you will have to bake the cookies in two batches.
    • Air fry on 160°C for 11 minutes or until the bottom looks cooked. If using almond flour, cook for 13-14 mins (also makes 9 cookies).
